Sonya Pettigrew

Sonya has been dancing for over 30 years, starting at the tender age of 4 years old, at King Slocombe School of Dance in Cambridge.  She passed her Royal Academy of Dancing exams in Classical Ballet with Honours.  She decided to pursue other careers for her A-Levels and Degree Course and returned to dancing as an adult with Esther Juon at Dancelaines Ballet School.  Sonya then spent a further 6 years studying and training to teach BBO Syllabus Classical Ballet with Esther, taking her Intermediate exam in BBO Syllabus as an adult in 2002.  When Esther retired and emigrated to New Zealand in 2005, Sonya took over the teaching of BBO Syllabus classes.  Sonya has spent the past years expanding the range of BBO Classes available, successfully entering students for exams at all levels gaining some of the highest distinctions for Intermediate level classical ballet, and successfully graduated in 2009 in her Diploma in Dance Teaching with the British Ballet Organisation.  Sonya currently has a number of students that have successfully gained  places in full-time vocational dance schools including Laban, Rambert and The London Studio Centre, St Bede’s College (formerly the Legat School) and Central School of Ballet.
